2 Hours Southall Park Uxbridge Road, Southall, London UB1 3AF, United Kingdom

The World Council of Hindus UK celebrated Makar Sankranti with joy, colors, and community spirit at our annual Kite Flying and Cultural Gathering. Makar Sankranti marks the transition of the Sun into Capricorn (Makara), symbolizing positivity, light, and spiritual upliftment.

The day was filled with vibrant activities for families and children:

  • Traditional kite flying competition with colorful kites dotting the sky
  • Sankranti puja & blessings led by local temple priests
  • Tilgul (sesame & jaggery sweets) distribution with the message: "Tilgul ghya, god god bola"
  • Cultural stage performances including songs, folk dances, and youth poetry
  • Free lunch (prasadam) served to over 250 attendees

"Let the kites soar high and the heart be filled with Dharma, warmth, and unity.”

This outdoor celebration brought together people from various Hindu traditions—Gujarati, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, and more—showcasing the diversity and unity of Sanatan Dharma. Elders blessed the children with sweets and stories, while youth engaged joyfully in flying kites and cultural expression.
